7 things that you should know before hiring a commercial cleaning company

Updated: May 14, 2021

Making your company’s facilities clean and well-maintained is vital to give a good impression on prospectors and customers that visit your offices. Not only that, a clean environment can make the workplace more enjoyable for employees and is also helpful to prevent the spread of viruses and bacteria.

Choosing the right cleaning company though can be challenging, especially if you have never worked with one before or have had a negative experience previously. However, with some research and the right questions in mind, you can hopefully make a good choice. We’ve listed seven of the most important things to consider when hiring a cleaning company for your business:

1. Always prefer companies that understand your business

After you’ve thought about your business needs, one thing that you should always look out for is if the company has enough experience with the type of cleaning you’re looking for. Cleaning a small office might be different than cleaning a professional restaurant kitchen, for example.

2. Check if the work is carried out by trained professionals

Do they have trained professionals? And how many years of experience do they have in the market? It’s totally fine to hire a newer company in the market as long as they have professionals that are trained to do the job properly.

3. Set up a budget and know exactly what you’re getting for your money

Do not be afraid to ask lots of questions and to understand the contract correctly. Knowing how much the services cost and what they will offer is the best way to make an informed decision. Once you’ve decided on the company, don’t be afraid to negotiate too!

4. Ask about equipment and products that will be used

You don’t need to be an expert in cleaning but understanding the basics about the quality of the products used in your premises is very important. Are they environmentally friendly? Are they safe to be used whilst there are people in the area? Needless to say, a professional company should provide all the equipment and products necessary to carry out their duties, otherwise, the final cost can end up being more than what you’ve agreed.

5. Make sure they have insurance

And don’t go ahead if they don’t! Don’t hesitate to ask to see proof of insurance before signing the contract, we recommend full coverage just for extra peace of mind. After all, accidents happen and you want to be covered.

6. Consider your schedule and how often you will need them

You need to think about how often you will need their services if daily, monthly or anything in between. Thinking ahead about your company’s needs will make it easier to schedule the services. Make sure you also ask about how flexible they are. After all, we all have unplanned events and it’s good to know if you can reschedule or book an extra clean with little notice.

7. Ask about previous work and referrals

You might have a colleague that already knows a cleaning company and can refer them to you. If not, you can always ask for examples of previous work for your reference and even for client testimonials – remember, you can find reviews online these days. Don’t be afraid to ask around!
